I wasn't aware of Pixie, though it does look like an interesting option for smaller sites, I'll have to try it out sometime

Yeah, I think the term paper analogy is a decent way of looking at it. You can add all sorts of effects to your site with CSS and libraries such as jQuery, but at the end of the day search engines ignore most of that. What matters to them is the underlying content and how it's structured, as well as some other factors such as site performance.

Thanks for your response. That makes sense and I was taught that search engines of old liked websites that were built almost like term papers in structure and with lots of content. Think that still applies even though websites can do so much more now?

I don't think Google's algorithms differentiates much between a html list and a paragraph tag. Personally, I always use what is semantically correct (i.e. If I am describing a list of items I use li's, if they are paragraphs of text, the p tag is more important.

You seem to be on the same page as me in terms of basic page structure. What do you know about how Google looks at

vs
? On our homepage, I've listed the top landing pages in
within
classes, and I'm wondering if I should be using
lists instead. The content is on the page though. I just want to know what you think Google will perceive as more important.
